Anantapur city has officially been declared as an open defecation-free city.
The Quality Council of India (QCI), an autonomous body promoting quality movement, handed over a certificate to this effect to Mayor Swaropa at the Anantapur City Corporation on 15th November 2016.
QCI verified the declarations of 49 schools, 50 corporators in the city and other public representatives before making the announcement. The certificate, issued on behalf of the Union Ministry of Urban Development, is valid for six months from November 15.
The QCI member has praised the measures taken by the ULB for providing access to toilets for all the citizens and has suggested for improvement of other sanitation facilities in the city. If the tag of open defecation-free city is to be continued, the certificate will have to be renewed after inspections at regular intervals.
